Isopure

For this weeks blog post I decided to post about a product I came across on facebook a while back for a protein drink and then came across again recently in the 2013 Graphis Design Annual in the Parkland library. The product had a poor design before as shown in the picture and was redesigned in order to create stronger brand recognition.

Isopure had a dated look and was modernized by simplifying the design. The result was the design below. The redesign became a success after it strengthened retail sales. According to CEO Hal Katz, sales went up 20% with the new design of the product.

The reason I chose this design is because I almost bought it before myself before knowing it was redesigned. The design of a product can influence a consumer greatly and I found it interesting reading the article about the design on the annual because it describes how the design affected the company's sales. Another reason I really like the design is because it is very colorful, eye-catching, and simple.

GQ Magazine

For this week’s blog post I decided to post the beginning page to an editorial I found in the GQ magazine. The reason I chose to post this is because it was eye-catching because of the colors, and the playful font. The article’s main idea is the 18 best hair people of all time. The font to this is very unique it is made of lines and breaks many typographic rules. One thing that caught my attention is that if you rotate the image it looks like 2 faces. The small letters depict the eyes and the large letters depict the hair and mouths.

The function of this modern playful design is to attract readers to the article so they can start reading.

Denny's Menu

As I was looking through the various menu items at Denny's I decided the menu would be great example of graphic design to include not only because I am working on a recipe book, which is somewhat of a similar layout, but because a menu is one the things that can influence a numerous amount of people.

For example, if a customer walks into a restaurant, the presentation the restaurant first provides will influence the consumer greatly. If they have boring and poorly designed menus they might get a bad first impression of what the food will be. The design of menus can also influence your consumer to try new stuff. For example, Denny's has an example where they provide a different special menu every so often. For this visit I came across a menu titled "Baconalia." In this menu they interesting bacon specials.

The reason I chose this design is because I really like the way they work with type and pictures. The Designs are easy to read, modern, and show you what the menu items look like which will influence the consumer to purchase it. The function of these menus is to get consumers to feel welcomed and to influence them to try their menu items.

The Isle of the Lost

For this weeks blog post I decided to post the book cover for "The Isle of the Lost." I found this book in my little sister's book collection and she is only 7 years old so I am sure the design of the cover had a big influence as to why she chose it. The function of this book cover is to engage the reader to purchase the book. The cover is very colorful and uses playful fonts. The playful title font looks as if its a vine coming from the apple and I think its very eye-catching. The back part of the cover also uses the same vine design by having a frame around a picture similar to the title. The reason I liked the design was because of the color choice as well, it is very bright and unique.

Guitar Logo

For this weeks blog post I found a nice logo online for a guitar school. The reason I chose this logo is because it plays with type in a creative way. It is a very simple black and white design but I really like how they managed to create a guitar from the type.

Dish

After searching my mail for possible designs that involved the use of many grids I came across this Dish promotional page. The reason I chose to use this is because this a great example of using grids in your designs. The function of this design is informational. What Dish is trying to do here is show the best deals they have going on right now and the best packages of channels. The design uses their space well and the use of a simple bold sans-serif typeface for their headers are very easy to read.

Seattle Sounders

For this weeks blog post I decided to use Seattles soccer team, the Sounders. The reason I chose this design is because its one of my favorite team logos. The colors are used so well to represent the team and the way they incorporated the space needle (an important historic building in Seattle) to the center of the design completes it well. The function of this design is to brand a memorable logo that people would like and it would eventually be printed onto jerseys, websites, and accessories to name a few. The sharp edges, colors, and modern/bold font type are what attract me to this logo the most.

Rinat Soccer

As I was looking through my mail I came across a Soccer.com magazine and decided to look through the new gear they had. I came across an interesting design for Rinat, a company that specializes in goalkeeper gloves. I liked this design because of the illustration but I do find it rather different that they don't include a real picture of the gloves. The function of this design is to get consumers to purchase the gloves and the design illustrates an intimidating guard-like person that I believe was used to make people feel like the gloves will make them a better keeper. I also liked the bold and aggressive style of text they used along with the choice of colors.

Dodge Viper

This week I came across a nice advertisement on the Car and Driver magazine designed by Dodge to promote the new style of the Dodge Viper. The function of this advertisement is to remind people that the Viper is back and with a new style for 2016. I really like this design because I like how the sans-serif type is big and red. Red always catches attention more and I think by putting the image of the car in front of the text they added more emphasis on the car as well. The modern text is loud and also suits the Dodge logo well.

Rocket Mortgages

For this week's blog post I came across an interesting advertisement in the GQ magazine. The purpose of the ad I chose is to get people's attention by simply asking a question. I found it rather an interesting approach because the first page asked "Do you like rockets?" I was confused with what the page was going to lead me into so my curiosity led me to flip open the page which answered my question for me, with a "YES". Still confused I look at the other side and it said "Do you like rocket mortgages?" I then turn to the back page of it all and understood more when I realized that the name of the advertiser was Rocket Mortgages. This designer used an interesting approach and I think it was interesting because it catches your full attention. The white text with the red makes the sans-serif type stand out from the images very well. I also like that as you continue reading the rocket takes off.

Microsoft Cloud

Hello,
Today I found a nice advertisement in the Wired magazine. I chose this advertisement because I really liked the layout of it. It goes from a wide variety of colors to an interesting title that eventually leads you to the information. I chose this ad because I like the energetic feeling you get from looking at it. It has a modern look and I like the sans-serif font they chose although it seems to be very familiar from Microsoft. I really like the condensed title and the kerning that they put on it to make it stand out on a black background. Simple yet elegant.
I believe the function of my scan is promotional. It promotes the benefits of using Microsoft Cloud. It promotes that Microsoft Azure and Office 365 help streamline events across various countries.
